Giving Back
Education is one of the fundamentals of our team. Each year, the team participates in giving back through various conferences, community events, and school visits to promote sustainable energy practices. We strive to educate youth about renewable energy sources, which are crucial to the planet’s sustainability. When visiting schools, the solar car team conducts interactive presentations with students and brings one of the team’s solar cars to display. We aim to inspire students to take initiative by providing them with knowledge and practical actions that they can take to live more sustainably.
The University of Calgary Solar Car Team also conducts our annual Alberta Tour, where the team tours the province of Alberta with our latest solar car. This is one of our biggest events for our community outreach program. In 2012, during the Schulich Axiom Alberta Tour (SAAT), held from April 30 to May 5th, we were able to reach out to over one thousand students and community members.
Our community outreach program in 2012 allowed our team to visit eighteen schools, reaching out to approximately 3,500 K-12 students. Through our continued efforts, we are able to spread our message throughout Calgary and its surrounding areas.
If you’re interested in having our team visit your school, please contact Communications Co-Manager Jillian Stephenson.
